What do you like best about SMSP?

‘It’s really friendly.’

‘I love the fun lessons and our teachers are great.’

‘There is a lot of variety in the lessons we are taught.’

‘We have lots of good clubs and activities. We go on lots of trips too.’

‘I like playing with the play equipment with my friends at break time.’

‘I like using our library. We have lots of good books to enjoy reading.’

Who would you speak to if you were worried in school?

‘I would speak to my teacher.’

‘I would speak to a trusted adult in school.’

‘I would talk to my mum and dad and a friend.’

What do you feel it means to be safe at school?

‘It means being looked after by the adults in school.’

‘Being safe means the teachers are looking out for you.’

‘It means being protected from outsiders – both in person and online.’

How does the school encourage you to look after your emotional and mental health?

‘We learn about wellbeing through collective worship and in PSHE lessons. We also have a wellbeing week.’ 

‘We learn about positive mental wellbeing and what this means for us.’

 ‘We have calm time where we shut our eyes and focus on our breathing.’

‘We have been learning to show our emotions and how important it is to do this. We use Zones of Regulation. We learn about when we are in red, yellow and blue zones and how to deal with this.’

Why do teachers stand at the gate when you arrive and go home?

‘They are there to welcome you into school and make sure you get  into school safely.’

‘To ensure no one tries to enter the school who shouldn’t.’

‘To check who you are leaving or arriving with.’

How does the school encourage you to respect people from other backgrounds and treat everyone equally?

‘I feel that everyone is treated the same. The school is welcoming to everyone and we are taught to be kind.’

 ‘We are taught to treat others how we would want to be treated.’

‘We have class contracts which we all sign and try to follow.’

‘If children join us from another country we try and find out about them and let them play the games they like to play.’

‘I was recently new to the school and I have been made really welcome.’

‘We have a year 5 buddy system where we look out for and help children in KS1 playground.’
