Pause Days at SMSP give our children an opportunity to engage with some high level thinking and reflection during focused R.E. days. These special days make a strong contribution to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (S.M.S.C.) development. They give pupils the opportunity to explore topics in greater depth and provide ‘space’ to enhance and deepen pupils’ understanding. The days enable the children to reflect on their own and other’s experiences of life and help them develop a sense of awe and wonder. Pause Days are opportunities for the children to express, apply and further develop their thoughts creatively through the use of art and drama. They also help the children understand our school vision and values.
We have a Pause Day each term:
- Autumn – Harvest
- Spring – Easter
- Summer – Courageous Advocacy
On our Harvest and Easter Pause Days, we have a special celebratory collective worship led by a member of the clergy. Children participate by writing and saying prayers; we have readings from the Bible and the school choir sing. Year groups will also lead services at St. Mary with St. Alban. Our Pause days provide a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community, giving time to reflect and be peaceful.
