School Council visits Parliament

On Monday the school council and Pupil Parliament reps went to the Houses of Parliament where the government meet to decide issues and debate new laws. We learnt that in the House of Lords they advise the MPs. The Queen visits once a year to agree the new laws. We weren’t allowed to sit down on the seats in the House of Commons or Lords because only MPs who have earnt a place there, are allowed to sit down.

Lots of tourists were in parliament on tours. There are 650 MPs representing all the constituencies . We had a workshop where we took a quiz and also had to make decisions about a campaign. The yellow team won! Our local MP, Tania Mathias met us at the workshop and answered our questions. We had a great day and it was fun being in London. Our next trip is to visit City Hall on 22nd June.
